 Quality Manager - Warwick

My clients Hydraulics Business in Warwick has an excellent opportunity for a Quality Manager, with a manufacturing (ideally Automotive) background. Educated to degree level & proven Lean / Six Sigma (ideally BB certified) experience are essential for this challenging role that offers excellent career progression.

Primary Function:

Functioning as a key part of the Plant Leadership team of Warwick, you will provide overall Quality and Manufacturing Engineering leadership to the organization. Drive the continuous improvement efforts throughout the operation in support of Total Quality Leadership and their Business System. Manage the Quality strategy of the organization to facilitate continuous production and improvement of products consistent with established industry standards, government regulations and customer requirements. Develop and maintain robust manufacturing process and cost out initiatives across the organization.

Essential Functions: Develop and implement a Quality organisational structure capable of supporting the strategic initiatives of the Warwick plant and lead the efforts to integrate quality requirements into the development of short and long-term improvement plans. This includes leading/supporting the operation in the implementation and improvement of the local Quality Management System.

 

Provide Quality interface and expertise between the operation and its customers to proactively identify or anticipate their needs and expectations and ensure they are understood and satisfied. This includes the complaint management system and the corrective/preventive action process related to customer issues – with feedback (Customer and Division) – and the coordination of customer visits and audits.

 

Develop a thorough understanding of their Business System with expertise in the tools related to Quality (e.g. – EQS, EPM / BSC, EBEA, Corporate Quality Policy, Ethics, Vision, Mission, Values, Philosophy, Organisational Capability Assessment and Corporate Accounts). Appropriate levels of this knowledge must be transferred to all subordinates as part of their personal development

Lead the deployment and integration of their Quality System into the EMEA Quality Management System.

Analyse key organisational quality metrics related to EPM / Balanced Scorecard (e.g. – Customer Returns DPPM, Internal Quality performance, Scrap, Cost of Non Conformance, and Supplier Quality performance) and perform periodic reviews to evaluate results and establish action plans to close the gaps at an operational level to achieve annual targets
 
Provide support to the Supply Chain Management organisation relative to Supplier Quality activities of the operation as well as provide Quality interface, expertise and support to the organisation’s suppliers and partners. This includes the feedback of supplier performance to suppliers and the Division. 

Lead the internal Quality System Audit program for the organisation and manage the corrective action system in conjunction with the management review process

Provide expertise in Quality Assurance and process improvement tools/methods to the other functions of the organisation to support them in their continuous improvement activities.

 

Develop and analyse statistical data and product/process specifications to determine standards and establish proposed quality and reliability requirements for the finished product

 

Support the management of performance and provide coaching to support career development opportunities for employees within the quality organisation continuously building organisational capability. This includes the development and implementation of training programs to build “bench strength” in the organisation.

 

Develop and maintain robust, cost efficient manufacturing processes and product structures consistent with lean manufacturing practices.  Perform root cause and failure analysis as required

 

Lead cost-out events and promotes culture of continuous improvement. Apply lean manufacturing techniques as means to eliminate waste and deliver products to customer’s expectations

 

Implement methods and practices to reduce variation. Demonstrate ability to understand source(s) of variation and identify impact of tolerance stacks in assemblies by applying Six Sigma Design and Development strategies. Conduct designed experiments. Understand application of SPC and gage R&R.

 

Participate in concurrent engineering efforts and critical design reviews to minimize product development costs and maximize useful life of products. Conduct Design For Manufacturing and value engineering initiatives as applicable. Develop work breakdown structures as a tool to develop cost estimates, new product development projects using ProLaunch as a tool to articulate deliverables and a vehicle to commit to schedules.
 
Develop and integrates new processes and methodologies as to provide competitive advantages for the business. Compose Capital Appropriation Requests (including payback and net present value analysis) for acquisition of equipment to support emerging and existing technologies. Train associates as requiredBasic Qualifications (Including Educational Requirements). Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Technical or other related discipline

 

Experience in manufacturing, manufacturing, engineering, product engineering or quality assurance and quality/warranty

 

Knowledge of quality assurance and continuous improvement methods, approaches and tools, including strategic planning and project management
 
Customer Contact experience 
 
Project Management and Quality Management System standards (i.e. ISO-9001, TS-16949, etc)

 Continuous Improvement Manager - South Coast UK 

My client has an opening for a Continuous Improvement (CI) Manager with Leadership responsibilities for Operational Excellence, Manufacturing Engineering at its Titchfield location (850 headcount, revenue $100M).

The CI Manager will have key responsibility for establishing and developing Continuous Improvement Strategies for Titchfield utilizing their Business System as the foundation. Producing a long term strategy for the deployment of a best practice lean management system across the Titchfield Operations function utilizing the Eaton Lean and Six Sigma (ELSS) process as the primary tool for driving continuous improvement.

The CI Manager will provide leadership and coaching to the OPEX, Manufacturing Engineering and EHS Managers to ensure the successful deployment of the CI framework, driving focus on standardized processes, tools and procedures in order to reduce process variation and achieve improvements in factory margin, product delivery performance, employee safety and reductions in product/process variation.
Providing support to the Division CI Manager, along with supporting other functional leaders in the development and deployment of continuous improvement tools and processes.

 

Key Responsiblilites:

 

  •  Proactively develop and drive the Continuous Improvement policies, practices and procedures for the Titchfield Plant. This would include, BS implementation, process improvement strategies, productivity initiatives and other programs leading to significant improvements in Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost and overall customer satisfaction.
  • Establishe Lean/Six Sigma strategies and execution/monitoring methodologies for the Continuous Improvement portion of the Strategic Business Plan, including growth, cost out and cultural change plans. Align improvement strategies to business profit plan for delivery, cost and quality improvement impact.
  • Participate as a key member of the leadership team. Contribute to business strategy development and operational execution of business plans.
  • Help to create the future state as it relates to shortened value streams, manufacturing strategies, cross-functional processes and the establishment of uniform policies and procedures.
  • Provide leadership and coaching to direct reports to ensure proactive deployment of CI programs and initiatives to support the business strategies and plans.
  • Interface with corporate functional and business leaders as well as counterparts at other plants to ensure alignment with the Business System.
  • Participation in ELS, Six Sigma and other corporate groups/councils.
  • Drive core CI processes across the Operation: Lean, Six Sigma, and Manufacturing Strategy.
  • Support to Plant Manager on organizational design and development to achieve CI strategy.
    Lead change to improve organizational effectiveness. Drives the change management necessary to implement effective programs.
  • Partner with the OPEX Manager to assess, select and develop Lean Coordinator and Six Sigma Black Belt talent throughout the operation, as well as mentoring and assisting in career management of these individuals.

 

Qualifications (Including Educational Requirements):

 

  • Certification in Six Sigma and Lean discipline.
  • Strong background in Training and mentoring of Six Sigma/Lean concepts at multiple levels.
  • Demonstrated strategic ability, business acumen and change leadership capability.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skill set.
